Friends: Sharing to the genes

Humans are
probably the only species where virtually all individuals form stable bonds and not related to reproduction. That is, virtually all have friends. Some studies suggest that friends share physical or behavioral characteristics, in other words, we have seen that there may be phenotypic similarity friends. What is not clear whether this similarity reflects a similar phenotypic genotypic , that is, do we share genes with our friends?
Image Xzit taken from Wikimedia Commons .
From the biological standpoint, this question is interesting for several reasons. One is that genetic similarities exist between friends that would increase the possibility that natural selection operate level group. It is also important when we consider the indirect genetic effects. In other words, the phenotypic characteristics of an individual could be affected by the genes of those individuals close to the genes of the guys then.
Several human studies have shown that there is a tendency to associate with those with whom we resemble ("God makes them flock together"), a process known as homophily . One can argue that social influence is undeniable that involve individuals who are alike, but it is also true that the phenotypic similarities may have a strong genetic component whether you believe in physical characteristics or behaviors.
But how we ended up near those with whom we also share genes? The thing is perhaps more simple than it seems. Let's see why.
First, groups with little mobility where reproduction occurs among those who are closer, it is almost inevitable that ultimately the individuals within a group share a number of genes. This phenomenon is known as population stratification.
Second, individuals can "actively" seek out those with genotypes similar to ours, and not because we are able to recognize their genes but because we are able to recognize the phenotype, which is the expression of the genotype.
Third, individuals can choose those environments-either actively or passively, in which the expression of our genotype is optimal, it is therefore natural that when we find ourselves with individuals who have also chosen the same environment in terms of genotype. For example, those prone to vigorous physical activity may be more likely to join a gym where people end up joining with other equally active.
Image Spazzykoneko taken from Wikimedia Commons .
is important to note, however, it is also possible to observe heterophyly . That is, people can actively choose those individuals who do not share characteristics (where opposites attract). This process appears to be relatively common during mate choice or may occur under certain circumstances. For example, in the workplace people with different skills and (potentially) different genes can be found within the same space.
On 1 February in the Journal of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences , published an article - in which this input is based on the genotypes found within networks of friends. For the study, led by James H Fowler the University of California at San Diego, the authors used a database called Add Health ( National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health ).
As part of the data collected for this database took saliva samples to identify the presence of 6 genes. Hence, the authors extracted information from pairs of friends (not related) as well as information on gender, age and ethnicity of them. One of the objectives of this database is just to have information about the behavior and adolescent health.
According to their results, there is some genotypic group in social networks that can not be explained solely by population stratification. That is, friends do not just resemble each other, if not also occur at these genotypic similarities. Although the genes considered were associated with certain personality characteristics and behavioral phenotypes is well known that with which these genes are most likely associated polygenic (ie, are affected by many genes) and pleiotropic (affects various features), which in some way guarantee the strength of its conclusions.
The authors found that for example there was some grouping of genotypes (homophily) in the DRD2 gene has been associated with alcoholism, which makes sense if we think that those more inclined to drink would feel better with other individuals with this tendency. On the other hand, the lack of connection between individuals with the CYP2A6 gene (associated with the opening social) suggests some heterophyly for that gene, even if not completely clear because those individuals actively seek social open to those who are not.
Still, the authors suggest that the fact that there are some genes for which there is heterophyly is proof that individuals actively select their friends.
One of the interesting conclusions can be drawn from this study is the fact that the genetic structure of human populations is not only a result of reproductive unions. Friendly ties can also have an important impact on the structure.
addition, homophily and heterophyly present among individuals within a group may have interesting implications in the way in which genes lead us to certain environments and social influence that the environment can have on our behavior. That is, humans can actively search for friends with certain genotypes, which in turn facilitate the expression of certain genes. This could therefore affect the development of other phenomena such as spread of diseases, information, etc.
James H. Fowler, James E. And Nicholas A. Settle Christakis, authors of the study suggest that maybe we could see the genetic landscape of an individual as the sum of the individual genes in question and the rest of the guys around him, just as in other organisms such as bacteria and laying hens.
Evolutionarily speaking social environment could be an important selective force than perhaps we thought. Within a network there may be genetic niches that promote or inhibit the development of certain types of behaviors such as those related to the acquisition of certain diseases, cooperation among individuals, etc.
The authors speculate further, suggesting that the genetic characteristics of certain groups may confer adaptive advantages. However, this is as yet experimental question (which has to be tested) and will be interesting to discover and understand under what conditions, besides the presence of certain genes, such adaptive advantages may be observed in individuals as mobile like humans.

Non-reactive Hepatitis B Surface Antibody

U ne of the keys to living a long life is adaptability. The adaptability of a person to changing circumstances, is what keeps you in good health for many years.

this ability is involved in the response function immune. A strong immune system capable of adapt to change, is what allows us to defend against a cold or to cancer or any other threat.

Another important capabilities of the immune system is its ability to self-regulate when needed, this is not to become hyperactive as is the case for many autoimmune diseases, called autoimmune diseases. A

fortunately, nature gives us a versatile fungus called Ganoderma Lucidum , with the proven ability to alleviate and even reverse these diseases and today can be found in what is considered the first Café Healthy World, Ganocafe 3 in 1.

Let's talk about an autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis, a disorder characterized by inflammation of the tissues and organs, but particularly attacks the joints. This hyper-inflammatory response can lead to the destruction of cartilage and loss of mobility. Symptoms of RA may also occur as swollen and stiff joints, accompanied by considerable pain and functional loss

. It is three times more common in women than in men, and begins to manifest between 40 and 60.

Conventional medicine rheumatoid arthritis treated with cortisone-like steroids that suppress immune function. Even in small doses, these drugs can cause osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, weight gain or high blood sugar. Most importantly, this treatment dangerous and unnatural to suppress the immune system, leaving the person at the mercy of infection. The

Ganoderma lucidum, also known as Reishi, is one of the most ancient of traditional Chinese medicine. Is a fungus native to Malaysia, China, Japan and has been used for thousands of years and is recognized for their ability to achieve longevity.

Fungus Ganoderma Lucidum influences the cells that regulate the immune system called lymph cells and cells and interferon alpha interferon beta and has the ability to educate these immune cells to better respond to the needs of the body. In other words, with the help of Reishi if immune system cells do not respond appropriately, be called into action and if they are hyperactive, they are taught to lower their immune response.

This capability Reishi Mushroom Ganoderma Lucidum or is documented in scientific studies. While based drugs steroids suppress the immune system, the Reishi mushroom does not stimulate or suppress the immune system, but it educates, helps and teaches modulated cells in this system as self-regulate more effectively.

From the first moment you start taking the fungus Ganoderma , your white blood cells begin their education and after a few months will graduate from the University of Ganoderma Mushroom, and it will be better adapted to control the immune system .

Ganocafe The prepared mushroom Ganoderma Lucidum you eat now, might have several hundreds of years of evolution. First, grows wild plum tree and is nourished by the sun and the earth, while accumulating energy and nutrients and when the tree dies, the fungus Ganoder

ma Lucidum adheres to the trunk and absorbs the life force and concentrates nutritional content and medicinal properties that the tree acquired during his life. Once the mushrooms are harvested and encapsulated powder-made coffee or tea, this concentration of life is transferred to the final consumer. This process represents the release of the power of Mother Nature in our immune system.

For over 4,000 years Reishi Mushroom Ganoderma Lucidum or has been revered in Chinese medicine and continues to be one of the most fascinating food and documented in nature. With over 150 antioxidants and phytonutrients, Ganoderma lucidum is the closest thing to perfection that you can find nutritional in nature. The interesting thing is that Ganoderma lucidum is extremely rare and grows only in two of every ten thousand elderly plum found in the dense and humid high mountain forests of Asia.

fungus Ganoderma or Reishi influences the cells that regulate the immune system cells called lymph cells and interferon alpha and interferon beta has the ability to educate these immune cells to better respond to the needs of the body. In other words, with the help of Reishi if immune system cells do not respond appropriately, be called into action and if they are hyperactive, they are taught to lower their immune response. Originally

Chinese called it "God's Herb" or "spiritual Grass" , and emperors regularly consumed Ganoderma Lucidum because they firmly believed he could give them eternal youth and prosperity. Acclaimed prolonged effectiveness and favorability are undoubtedly Ganoderma Lucidum characteristics placed this herb in a league of "adaptogens" supreme as the Ginseng. Adaptogens are natural agents, non-toxic, have a stabilizing influence on the body and work by helping the body to create resistance to stress, trauma and fatigue. It was also shown that adaptogens contain antioxidants that fight free radicals that cause cellular damage.

In general, Ganoderma Lucidum is the most powerful and versatile of the so-called "mushroom treatment" . Not only the ecology is fragile and unpredictable Reishi also comes with a window opportunity very closely. Ganoderma Lucidum usually takes three months to reach full maturity. To grasp its full potential, can be harvested rapidly and processed in ways that keep the power intact. DXN

reishi - HIGH GRASS
For over 2000 years Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma lucidium) have been considered as a high quality medicinal herb by the Chinese . In traditional Chinese medicine theory, Reishi or Lingzhi is in the highest category.
This improves overall health, increases healing ability, provides longevity and causes no side effects under long-term consumption. According to Dr. Li Shi-Zhen, China Medical Doctor's most famous Ming dynasty, the consumption of Reishi seeks long-term good health and longevity. Modern medical studies have shown that Reishi has a wide variety of beneficial effects. Its main function is to promote blood circulation and increase the metabolic activities of cells (detoxification) and also helps the proper functioning of all internal organs (balance bodily functions).

main items in Reishi
Through modern scientific analysis has found more than 200 active ingredients in Reishi. The active elements are:

I) POLYSACCHARIDES
polysaccharides stimulate or moderate the immune system by activating immune cells such as macrophages and helper cell T and also increases the level of inmunoglóbulos (antibodies) to combat unwanted cells such as bacteria, viruses and so on. The Polysaccharides help eliminate toxins from our body, strengthens the body's natural healing ability, makes the abnormal cells in normal cells and improves overall health by strengthening the body's resistance. Experiments at the Institute of Drug Studies in Toyama, Japan, confirms that the polysaccharides found in reishi, are responsible for improving the immune system. In Japan, it has been reported that Reishi extract is effective in treating patients with liver problems.

II) triterpenoids

Triterpenoids are a bitter substances found in Reishi and is also the substance that provides benefits. This component improves blood pressure and blood lipid increases. Triterpenoids have a balancing effect on the body, especially the immune and circulatory system. Triterpenoids Reishi adaptation offers superior quality, providing protection against a variety of biological pressure, environmental and social people.

III) Adenoids
The adenoids strengthen blood circulation in impelling the blood platelet aggregation. A study by researchers at the University of Traditional Medicine in Beijing China found that Reishi improved the functioning of red blood cells in the transfer of oxygen. Researchers have linked this with the adenoids of Reishi.
The adenoids also help in lowering cholesterol and regulates the metabolism contributing to the vigor and vitality.
Hoy-day, a large portion of the population is in the state of "pre-disease" because of environmental pollution, pressure, and lifestyle unhealthy as the consummation of foods high in fat, cholesterol, sugar, salt and addictive chemicals. Under these circumstances, it is wise to prevent the deterioration of their health rather than seek a cure after the disease arises. Just as China's most ancient medical documents this, Reishi is used as prevention rather than cure. That's why Reishi is the best solution for health problems of today-day.

The waist-hip ratio and eyes dancers

Having a measure of human sexual attraction is not as simple as it seems. The morphological characteristics are certainly easier to measure, but other qualities, equally or more important, as the charm and sense of humor seem to be more elusive to accurate measurement. The waist-hip ratio was once regarded as a measure of the attractive female morphological irrefutable. In numerous studies in industrialized societies found that images of women with a low waist-hip ratio, ie, those who had little body like an hourglass, were considered more attractive by men.
No only these bodies were considered more attractive if there were also correlates with the levels of estrogen and progesterone, hormones that in turn are associated with cups of conception. Over the years, however, things have changed a bit and found that it is not so simple or direct.
William Blake illustration taken from Wikimedia Commons .

Some studies have found that preferences for body shape that vary in different cultures and other studies have shown that the perceived attractiveness also depends on the type of images are presented, for example, if images are front, side or rear.
Recently, studies on attractiveness and sexual selection in humans have made use of the use of devices that measure eye movements of subjects under test. With these devices it is possible to know which body part the attention is fixed first, how many and which of these parts are fixed gaze and time spent in each of these activities.
Measuring eye movements or the time during which there are certain characteristics has been used in morphological studies that measured physical attractiveness, although visual attention is a measure which has also been used in a variety of studies.
Barbara J Dixson and a team of 3 colleagues from the University of Wellington in New Zealand recently used this type of apparatus for studying how people evaluate the female figure and how it relates this assessment to their views on the visual the appeal of these images. Their results were published recently in the journal Human Nature .
For their study used a color photograph a naked woman. This photograph was modified with PhotoShop to change the waist-hip ratio (ratio 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9) both a front and rear. Consequently, 6 images were created. A total of 30 heterosexual men aged 25 to 44 different images reviewed as a small machine recorded their eye movements. After this had to rate the attractiveness of each on a scale of 1 to 6.
Barbara and his colleagues then divided regions of the body for each type of image to analyze visual attention of men in these regions during the eye movement.
Body regions considered in the study. Image taken from the referenced article.
Their study, the first to analyze the ocular response to both front and rear images showed that those images where the waist-hip ratio was 0.7 were considered more attractive regardless of the pose ( front or rear).
As perhaps expected, the images eyes turned back in the region of the stomach and buttocks. When the images were observed frontal visual attention focused on the breasts (not unsurprisingly) but also in the stomach in those pictures where the waist-hip ratio was high.
In this sense, the study in question is the first to identify the importance of the abdomen in studies of female attractiveness, so surely the issue must be explored further in the future. This finding makes sense when one bears in mind what others have suggested about the hip-waist ratio in the sense that functions as a first filter in evaluating male female physical attractiveness.
Of course it is important to bear in mind that eye movements are not implicit measures of perceived attractiveness, simply point your attention to a certain region. That is, although physical attractiveness capture the attention of other mental processes may be involved when measuring visual attention.
In this sense, the study team at the University of Wellington also notes the usefulness of visual monitoring techniques in studies of sexual selection, the use of such techniques is relatively new to this type of study.
Finally, the evaluation of different body poses in the study of physical attractiveness is one of the strengths of this study. While for ordinary mortals may not sound very novel, the study of Barbara and his colleagues demonstrates scientifically the importance of images in the evaluation rear female physical attractiveness.

The Strongest Painkiller In The World

New track on the dawn of the dinosaurs

The "corridor of dawn, or Eodromaeus , was a small theropod that lived during the Late Triassic as Argentina and is now about 230 million years ago was the Southwest Pangea. This small dinosaur about 2 meters was very similar to a Tyrannosaurus rex . In fact, current thinking is that this lizard is the oldest ancestor of the fearsome T. rex.
Eodromaeus . illustration from here.
One of the results of a study recently published in the journal Science , bipedal dinosaur suggests that it took the made Eoraptor , another small dinosaur that until recently was regarded as the grandfather of theropods. Eoraptor means "dawn thief" and was found-as- Eodromaeus in Ischigualasto Provincial Park or Moon Valley in northwestern Argentina.
Eoraptor compared with Homo sapiens. Illustration Dropzink Wikipedia taken.

A reassessment of Eoraptor suggests that this lizard was, in fact, an ancestor of the huge vegetarian dinosaurs like Apatosaurus . It is interesting note that Eoraptor and share Eodromaeus morphological characteristics. However, everyone seems to be the ancestor of two different groups of Eodromaeus theropods and Eoraptor of sauropodomorphs .
Among theropods are a variety of bipedal dinosaurs, mainly carnivores and the huge sauropodomorphs were very long-necked dinosaurs. This emphasizes the fact of how similar were the ancestors of both groups, which is not surprising considering that this would be the early stage of radiation evolution.
Then, the discovery of Eodromaeus , reassessment of Eoraptor and other fauna found in the formation of Ischigualasto suggests that early dinosaurs had morphological features characterize locomotives after other groups of dinosaurs.
Therefore, the study authors, led by Ricardo N Martinez de la Universidad Nacional de San Juan suggest that dinosaurs were not "swept" to rival groups, on the contrary, it seems that way his reign was more gradual than previously thought. Apparently, the extinction of other herbivores, not within the group of dinosaurs was gradual and not the result of opportunistic replacement of the dinosaurs, as has been suggested previously.
This last point is important. Paleontologists are not only interested in the twilight of the dinosaurs and the tragic stories about that. This type of scientists also are passionate about knowing the origins of this once successful group of reptiles.
Some paleontologists may prefer to be cautious about the results of Ricardo and his research colleagues and, indeed, independent groups of researchers assessed the new track on the dawn of the dinosaurs, featuring now-very poetically, the "corridor of dawn."
